Biography Part II

16 Feb, 2015: Prayer for the swift Return of late Sed-Gyued Dorje Chang Jampa Wangyal

Myurjon Soldeb - Tibetan Text

Translation:

Prayer for the swift Return of the late former Sed-Gyued Abbot Dorje Chang Jampa Wangyal

To Tsong Khapa, the second Buddha,
and to the lineage of masters and disciples
who upheld his scriptural and experiential teachings,
I reverently prostrate with my body, speech and mind.

From Vajra Holder Sed-Gyued Konchok Yarphel
to the Dharma King Jampa Wangyal,
the succession of abbots who propagated the tradition of Sed-Gyued,
to you I supplicate.

The practice of monastic discipline, the foundation of Buddhism
of the glorious Nalanda of India, the Land of the Arhats,
and the common teaching, Perfection of Wisdom, and the uncommon teaching, Vajra Vehicle,
may you swiftly return to the holder of the entire Buddha Dharma!

According to the clear prophecy of the supreme of all teachers,
like Amitabha and Avalokiteshvara,
who extensively propagated the Buddha Dharma in the Land of Snows,
please do not waver from carrying out the virtuous actions, I beseech.

The successive lineage of His Holiness the Dalai Lama,
who worked for the welfare of all sentient beings
through the vast and profound Dharma and the great Gaden Phodang Institute,
may their wish be accomplished spontaneously!

As a result, in the whole world, particularly in this Land of Snows,
illuminating the darkness of the detrimental conflicts
and appearing the full spherical sun forever,
may it shine in all corners of the wide world!

Through the blessing of the ocean of the victorious Three Jewels
and through the truth of the static reality of dependence
and by the virtue of our sincerity,
may all our prayers come true!

Composed by the 102nd Ganden Throne Holder Rizong Setrul Thubten Nyima on the 16th of February 2015 at the collective request of the Sangha assembly of Sed-Gyued Monastery and the Sed-Gyued Deden Labrang for the swift arrival of the reincarnation of the late former Sed-Gyued Abbot Dorje Chang Jampa Wangyal.

News in Tibetan

Our most beloved and benevolent spiritual teacher, H. E. Dorje Chang Jetsun Jampa Wangyal Rinpoche of Sed Gyued monastery who, without any pain, sat cross-legged on his bed facing the altar and temporarily, passed away into Parinirvana at around 6:24 on the evening of the auspicious Kalachakra day on the 15th of the 11 month of the Tibetan year 2042, to guide us, who tightly hold the view of the permanent nature of things, to the path of Dharma practice.

Rinpoche La remained in the meditative state of clear light (Thukdham) for sixteen days (eight days and eight nights). During his entire sixteen-day Thukdham, he wore a T-shirt and two sweaterson on the upper part of his body, one small and one large. On the lower part of his body, he wore a skirt and a warm blanket on his whole body. His skin tone didn't change and his body remained fresh and free of any unpleasant smell.

During the entire event of this display of his superior personality as a holy being, the assembly of the Masters of Tantric Buddhist Philosophy of Gyued-Med and Sed-Gyued monasteries, Vajra Masters and monks of Sed-Gyued and other monasteries chanted the mandala rituals of Guhyasamaja, cremation rituals of rising in the form of deity, offering rituals in relation to the profound path of the inseparability of bliss and emptiness, the root tantra of Guhyasamaja and other prayer rituals for successive days and nights in the kind presence of H. E. Khensur Rinpoche Jetsun Thutop Gonpo of Sed-Gyued monastery.

Moreover, the making of supplication offerings to our one and only savior of all our lives, H. H. the Dalai Lama, other high Lamas and to the monasteries was well accomplished. The general public also paid great respect and developed intense faith during the master's Kudung audience.

During the ablution of his Kudung, his body was very flexible and his arms and legs could be easily stretched and bent like those of living people. H. E. Khensur Rinpoche Thutop Gonpo described this as an extraordinary sign while recounting the story of the previous Ling Rinpoche whose Kudung also possessed such characteristics of flexibility.

After the successful preparation of the cremation ceremony on the 24th of the 11th Tibetan month, the rites of offering Torma to the four great guardian kings was performed for three consecutive days. Subsequently when the door of the cremation stupa was opened, the major part of Rinpoche's skull was found unburned and perfectly white, and bearing a protrusion at the centre. There is also an unburned organ left on a fragment of his thigh bone which looks like a tongue or eye or heart and we have been examining it in a hospital. Many relics were also discovered from his cremation Stupa.

Today, the filling and the consecration of the relic statue of our late master were completed preceded by the bone rites performed according to the rituals of Vajrasattva.

In the meantime, it was brought to our notice that there is no tradition of observing the periods of seven weeks and the 49th day in the four major monasteries and in the two major tantric monasteries when an abbot or high Lama passes away into Parinirvana, and we were advised to follow suit. As a result, the assembly of the Sangha members of our monastery unanimously decided to follow suit and we hope all the concerned people will keep this in mind.

We would also like to inform you that as per the pre-arranged schedule, there will be a teaching by H. E. the Gaden Tripa in March to commemorate the birthday of Rinpoche. On March 7, his actual birthday, an offering of a thousand sets of offerings and an extensive sacrificial offering will be held to commemorate his great kindness amidst the gathering of all the concerned people. Therefore, we would like to request all the concerned individuals to come and join us on that significant and auspicious prayer gathering, to pay your tributes and commemorate his great kindness.

Yours sincerely, Sed-Gyued Monastery and Deden Labrang, Salugara

05 Jan, 2015: Passing of H.E. Dorje Chang Jetsun Jampa Wangyal Rinpoche into Parinirvana

We are deeply saddened to inform you the Parinirvana of our most beloved and benevolent spiritual teacher, His Eminence Dorje Chang Jetsun Jampa Wangyal Rinpoche La, who has entered into the meditative state (Thukdam) in the evening of the auspicious day of Kalachakra on the 15th of the 11 month of the Tibetan year 2042 to guide us to the path of Dharma practice.

Rinpoche La was diagnosed with high blood pressure on May 14, 2007 and was slowly and steadily recovering from his illness with the help of Tibetan and western medications, yoga exercises and prayer rituals. Apart from feeling a bit feverish thirteen days ago and experiencing a mild diarrhea two days ago, generally he had no major health issues and was mentally very sound and had carried out his daily routines as usual. This year from the 11th of the 7th Tibetan month, he had comfortably managed to complete the prayer rituals of Refuge, Mantra of Je Tsongkhapa, Chakrasamvara Sadhana and Goddess Palden Lhamo's fire offering rites in supplementary along with his spiritual servant Ven. Dakpa La, as advised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Recently, the most secret Hayagriva Sadhana Puja was commenced in our monastery from the 29th of the 10th Tibetan month. In the evening of day 16 of the Puja on the full moon of the day of Kalachakra of the 11th month of the Tibetan year 2042, he went to his abode a little earlier than normal and did his daily evening yoga exercises for about 38 minutes. Immediately after that, he was invited to his interior bed room and after 29 minutes at around 6:24 pm, without any pains, he sat cross-legged on his bed facing towards the altar and passed away into Parinirvana to lead us, who tightly hold the view that life is permanent, to the path of Dharma practice. At this time, he is still in the meditative state on clear light stage.

In order to commemorate his great kindness and for the swift arrival of his reincarnation once again for our spiritual guide, we have made the following list of supplication offerings to the incomparable saviours of all our lives, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other high Lamas, and veneration offerings to the monasteries and assembly of Sangha for the quick accomplishment of the aspirations of our beloved late master.

  26. Most importantly, we will seek audience and guidance from His Holiness the Dalai Lama about his reincarnation and other matters as soon as possible and will sincerely follow them.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Sed-Gyued Monastery

"Sed-Gyued Monastery, Salugara, is the main seat of the Sed-Gyued lineage or whispered lineage. Whispered lineage is a secret teaching transmitted only to the closest disciple through direct communication with their root teacher or meditational deity ... It is because of the unbroken secret teachings of Sed-Gyued lineage and commentaries that the Tibetan secret Mahayana practice is intact today ... The purpose of Sed-Gyued Monastery is to preserve and promote the unique tantric study, practice, experiences and culture of this lineage, as well as the subsequent lineage holders and Sed-Gyued masters ... I appreciate and admire Sed-Gyued Dorjee Chang Jampa Wangyal Rinpoche for his tireless effort to preserve the Sed-Gyued tradition. I wish and pray for the better establishment and further development of Sed-Gyued Monastery."
