Sed-Gyued Monastery - Welcome
The Sed-Gyued Institute of Buddhist Studies, the main seat of the Sed-Gyued lineage, is based in Salugara, West Bengal, India. The institute currently enrolls 96 monks and 18 staff members. The Founder and President of the monastery is Sed-Gyued Dorjee Chang Jampa Wangyal Rinpoche. The previous Abbot of the monastery is Venerable Gyued-Tod Khensur Ngawang Jorden. The present Abbot of the monastery is Gyued-Med Khensur Lobsang Delek Rinpoche. The General Secretary of the monastery is Venerable Dakpa Gyaltsen.

18 Oct, 2011: Enthronement of the new Khenpo - Announcement
The enthronement ceremony of the newly appointed abbot will be held at the prayer hall of Sed-Guyed Institute on November 2, 2011 at 10 pm, coinciding with the 10th Anniversary of the Monastery. All the friends, devotees and sponsors are cordially invited to attend the religious ceremonies on this special event.
Unlike earlier festivities, these ceremonies will not be accompanied by cheerful performances of dance by the school chidren, songs or hilarity of any kind. With this modest measure, we want to express our respect to the young martyrs who lost their life in Tibet, recently. We pray for our fellow countrymen who sacrificed their life for their home country. May they attain an auspicious rebirth in the heavenly fields.
19 Jul, 2011: Appointment of new Abbot
The confraternity of of the Sed-Gyued Institute of Buddhist Studies is glad to inform you that His Eminence Gyued-Med Khensur Lobsang Delek has been appointed the 100th Abbot of our monastery by H. H. the Dalai Lama.
The present, outgoing abbot, Gyued-Tod Khensur Ngawang Jorden, held this appointment for the last two years. Sadly, he could not complete his three years tenure of Abbot, since he was appointed the new Abbot of Ser-Med Monastic University by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The monks of Sed-Gyued will deeply regret his absence. During his tenure as abbot, the monastic doctrine increasingly flourished and the disciples' ethical discipline was maintained very well. The monks do greatly rever him and will never forget his kindness and care bestowed on them. The monks all pray for him that, during his tenure as abbot, Sera-Med be filled with all the good fortunes and that the monastic doctrine and ehical discipline of the disciples flourish increasingly.
The enthronement ceremony of the newly appointed abbot will take place later. Respective informations will be available in time.

23 - 24 Dec, 2010: Visit of H.H. the Dalai Lama
For the fourth time already, His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced the Sed-Gyued Institute of Buddhist Studies with his treasured visit.
Reaching the monastery on 23rd December, H.H. gave an extensive teaching on the 37 Practices of a Boddhisattva. The auditorium gathered at the monastery's premises consisted of an estimated 25'000 monks, nuns and laymen including a great number of devotees from Bhutan.
On 24th December, upon completion of his explanations, the Dalai Lama conferred an Avalokiteshvara Empowerment (Wang Chenrig She) on the attendees gathered. In the early afternoon, His Holiness left for Dharamsala.
2 Nov, 2010: Newly elected working committee members
As the old executive working committee member's term from 2008 to 2010 came to an end, a meeting was held on 2nd November 2010 to elect new executive working committee members for the years 2010 to 2012. Four new members were elected for the executive working committee. All of them already were in charge previously and were elected to take new charges with a majority of votes of the students of the monastery. All are well experienced and well dedicated.
In the following, we give you a brief biography of the newly elected executive working committee members at the Sed-Gyued Institute of Buddhist Studies:
Jampa Tenzin Lama elected as Secretary
Jampa Tenzin Lama was born in Tibet on 25th December 1985. He came to India in end of December 1996. In the same year, he joined our monastery as a monk. He was in charge as store keeper from 2001 to 2003.
Jampa Leksang elected as Accountant and Cashier
Jampa Leksang was born in Tibet in September 1988. He joined our monastery in 2001. He was in charge as Kyonyer from 2008 to 2010.
Gompo Dorjee elected as Store Incharge
Gompo Dorjee was born in Bhutan on 14th November 1987. He had done his schooling at St. Joseph in Kalimpong till class seven. He joined our monastery in 2004. He was in charge as store keeper from 2006 to 2007.
Jampa Gyatso elected as Shopkeeper
Jampa Gyatso was born in India in July 1990. He has done his schooling at Assam Bokel High School in Dibrugarh, Assam. In 2006, he joined our monastery. He was in charge of the Clinic Centre from 2007 to 2010.
Yerne and Chabshu
These days, a special prayer season called "Yerne" is going on with various activities such as making Herukapa and Yamantaka Sand Mandalas as well as Rabney, Changar, Yanso and Lhachochelmo. These special prayers are held once a year. During the period of Yerne, the monks have to observe particular rules: Not walking on the grass, not crossing over bridges and departing for a limited distance only. The main theme is abstention from sin and reciting prayers.
Yerne lasts for 45 days. After that we celebrate the "monk's New Year". It is called "Chabshu". It starts with the Morning Prayers followed by the distribution of sweets to the monks. All the monks participate in competitions in running, jumping, football, chess, carom (finger billards), table tennis, cricket and so on. The winners will be given prizes per category.
After Chabshu, the monks get 7 days of holiday. On the 8th day, the monastic routines will be resumed.
New Principal
Ven Jampa Tenzin joined our monastery in 1996. Since he turned out to be bright-minded and well disciplined just as showing excellent conduct in his studies our monastery sent him, together with an other monk, to the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala.
After successful completion of his BA in Tibetan Studies, there, he returned to our monastery and was appointed principal of our school. We have great hopes and faith in him.

"Sed-Gyued Monastery, Salugara, is the main seat of the Sed-Gyued lineage or whispered lineage. Whispered lineage is a secret teaching transmitted only to the closest disciple through direct communication with their root teacher or meditational deity ... It is because of the unbroken secret teachings of Sed-Gyued lineage and commentaries that the Tibetan secret Mahayana practice is intact today ... The purpose of Sed-Gyued Monastery is to preserve and promote the unique tantric study, practice, experiences and culture of this lineage, as well as the subsequent lineage holders and Sed-Gyued masters ... I appreciate and admire Sed-Gyued Dorjee Chang Jampa Wangyal Rinpoche for his tireless effort to preserve the Sed-Gyued tradition. I wish and pray for the better establishment and further development of Sed-Gyued Monastery.”
